Money Shouldn’t Be a Catch-Up Game

Most of us learn about money too late.

We’re handed rules before we’re ever given language.

Save. Budget. Don’t overspend.

But no one explains what an asset is. Or equity. Or ownership.

So we follow instructions (or not) without understanding, and by the time the language shows up, we’re already trying to catch up.

That’s not a personal failure. That’s how the system was designed.

Financial Letteracy exists to change that.

About the Founder

With a background in education, business, and nonprofit leadership, Michelle Harvey has spent years developing programs that empower families and communities. As the founder of Financial Letteracy, Inc., she’s dedicated to bringing high-quality, engaging financial literacy tools to classrooms, libraries, and homes nationwide.

In her own words...

Hi! I'm Michelle. I’m a mom who wanted to give my daughter something I never received as a child: a healthy, confident relationship with money.

Before I ever created a book, a video, or a curriculum, I was a new mom sitting at my kitchen table thinking, “How do I teach my baby something that I’m still learning myself? And how do I teach it now?”

Then one day, while listening to a talk about investing, someone casually mentioned teaching kids financial literacy using the alphabet. That single idea lit a fire under me. I couldn’t shake it. I knew there had to be a better way to teach kids about money. A way that was joyful, playful, culturally relevant, and actually useful.

So I created it.

From that spark came the first ABCs of Finance Coloring Book. Then came more books, music, animated videos, flash cards, a curriculum, and now partnerships with schools, families, libraries, banks, and media platforms that want to empower the next generation.

Financial Letteracy isn’t just a brand. It’s a movement.

Because every child deserves to grow up understanding money instead of fearing it.

Every family deserves access to tools that build confidence, not confusion.

And every parent deserves support along the way.

My work exists to make financial education joyful, accessible, and rooted in real-life skills that help children grow into confident, capable decision-makers.

This began as a passion project for my daughter.
Now it’s becoming a global effort for families everywhere.

And we’re just getting started.

A Vision for Financially Empowered Kids

Through storytelling, cartoons available on YouTube, and dynamic author visits, Michelle makes financial literacy accessible and fun for children as young as three. With her unique approach, kids meet talking letters of the alphabet, each representing an important financial concept (A for Asset, B for Business, C for Credit) helping them build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a strong financial foundation.

Financial Letteracy's work is more than just books, it’s a movement. Michelle and her team are dedicated to equipping educators, parents, and school communities with engaging tools, curriculum-aligned resources, and real-world strategies that make financial education part of everyday learning.

With a background in education, business, and nonprofit leadership, Michelle has spent years developing programs that empower families and communities. As the founder of Financial Letteracy, Inc., she’s dedicated to bringing high-quality, engaging financial literacy tools to classrooms, libraries, and homes nationwide.

When she’s not writing or speaking, you’ll find her homeschooling her daughter, connecting with educators, inspiring young readers, and creating innovative ways to bring financial literacy to life.
